Mission
Our mission is to co-create a new, sustainable farming model that contributes to the transformation of New Zealand's currently brown economy to a beaming example of resilient, diverse and self-sufficient green economy. We connect and collaborate with other EGS innovators, facilitators, entrepreneurs and established businesses and provide easily accessible information packages, education and services to farms who are ready to make the change.
Ultimately, our mission is to design new farming models and know-how that is scaleable and can be adopted throughout the world.
Goals
These are very early days for the institute and our goals are still taking shape and new goals arise as we identify further problems to be solved. Our first focus is to find alternative farming solutions for dairy operations.
01.
–
Research Institute Set up a research facility with a purpose of experts working together on soil recovery, remediate water standards, pioneer plants to remove toxicity, ideas for polyculture, crop rotation,
02.
–
Model Farm
Convert a dairy farm and start operation based on the Reversible principles. The farm also gives place to the education and research centre.
03.
–
Business packages Business plans for different size dairy operations, with timelines and detailed cost analysis and roadmaps to a profitable green business
04.
–
Buyers network
Collaboration with EGS and alternative food businesses, to shape offers accordingly - e.g. pea protein for Angel Foods or raw material for Hempcrete.
“If you were looking for a way to create food you really couldn't do much worse than growing crops to feed them to animals so the animals convert them into meat”.
Bruce Friedrich | THE GOOD FOOD INSTITUTE
The Future
“It will be painful to watch the sun setting over one of our treasured economic mainstays forming the very essence of our rural – even cultural identity. But what will be more painful for New Zealand is if we allow denial of the rapidly changing technologically led agricultural and food paradigm, and our nostalgia for pasture-based farming paralyse our future economic progress. Despite the many palpable warning signs, it’s time to start thinking seriously about Plan B for New Zealand’s road ahead. Otherwise becoming the Detroit of Agriculture could fast become New Zealand’s nightmarish reality.”
